I love teaching! As soon as I started kindergarten, I fell in love with school and decided I would become a teacher. I loved writing with colorful chalk on the boards and having story time on the rug. I will never forget forcing my siblings and friends to sit in my "classroom" at home and play school with me. My teachers were kind enough to let me take home extra copies of assignments so my lessons plans were always prepared. I had the time of my life. I can't speak for the others!
This will be my fourth year at Valley View and my twelfth year as a teacher. I hold Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a minor in psychology from Loyola University of Chicago. In 2011, I received a Master of Arts degree in Special Education with Learning & Behavior Specialist certification from Northeastern Illinois University. I taught 3rd grade for eight years in Glencoe, Illinois prior to moving to Austin. I have worked with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade teams over the past three years. I'm excited for the new school year as I return to 3rd grade again!
It has been just over three years since my husband, Chris, and I made our big move from Chicago to Austin. While the weather has been a huge bonus, my favorite part of Austin is the people. I have loved meeting so many friendly, caring and kind individuals over the past few years. Chris and I have two dogs, Bowser and Bailey, and we love taking them for long walks around Lady Bird Lake. We love to try new restaurants, go for hikes, jog and exercise, and travel.
Each new school year brings an excitement and energy that for me has yet to be recreated by any other experience. It signals a new beginning, a fresh start, and an opportunity to learn and grow together. Education is a team effort where students, parents and teachers work together to make each year a success. I look forward to seeing many of you again, meeting some of you for the first time, and building upon the incredible sense of community we all feel here at Valley View. It is going to be one amazing year!!
